Description
The over 100-year-old Wachau Railway has been running in a new design since 2012. The Wachau Railway's trademark are the golden carriages with large panoramic windows. The golden railcars with their large panoramic windows offer a unique view of the beautiful landscape and the meandering Danube. It runs from Krems to Emmersdorf at weekends and on public holidays, and daily in summer. The route runs along an impressive route in an elevated position and with the best views over the Wachau. A trip on the Wachau Railway can be easily combined with hikes and cycle tours, while a boat trip on the Danube is a great way to combine the two. In close coordination with ferries, shipping, rental bikes, e-mobility offers, bus transport and tourism businesses, the Wachau Railway is an important tourist factor in the World Heritage Site. Bicycles are of course transported by train and transportation is free of charge.
Combined "Boat & Train" tickets, for example for the outward journey by train and the return journey by boat - or vice versa - make the Wachau Railway particularly attractive.
