Waxenberg

Mountain summit

Description

The Waxenberg is a 500 meter high mountain in the municipality of Paudorf. Göttweig Abbey is only about one kilometer away. The area on and around the Waxenberg is accessible by hiking trails.

Location: Danube Lower Austria, Dunkelsteinerwald, municipality of Paudorf

From the summit cross of the Waxenberg you have a beautiful view of Göttweig Abbey and the surrounding communities. At the foot of the Waxenberg is the church of St. Blasien in the village of Klein Wien.

Hiking around the Waxenberg

A section of the Krems Valley ("Kremstal-Donau" in German) long-distance hiking trail leads from the municipality of Furth to Paudorf. An easy and family-friendly hike. Takes about one hour. This tour can be extended as desired. The area offers many possibilities, such as a visit to the sequoia trees, a hike to the summit of the Waxenberg, or up to the Göttweiger Berg (UNESCO World Hertige site).

Tips in the surrounding area:

  • In Klein-Wien, opposite the church of St. Blasien, the family-run Landgasthof Schickh invites you to stop for a bite to eat. Here, guests are spoiled with seasonal, down-to-earth and home-made dishes.
  • Impressive wooden sculptures can be admired along the "Skulpturenweg" hiking trail between Paudorf and Höbenbach. They are the result of the "International Wood Sculpture Symposium", which was launched in 1997.
