Naturdenkmal Hohlweg Zellergraben

Description

The Zellergraben in Furth-Göttweig is one of the most important hollow paths in the district of Krems. It is one kilometer long and is a section of the Welterbesteig Wachau - Wachau World Heritage Trail. The imposing loess walls reach a height of 12 meters. Numerous wild bees nest here, as well as the colorful bee-eater, which also feeds on wasps and other large insects. The Furth Tourist and Beautification Association has set up the Loess and Wine theme trail in the Zellergraben, where you can find out about the formation of loess, stability, finds in the loess, soil properties, flora and fauna on twelve information boards.
Special plant species include the blue-flowered Austrian flax, the helmet orchid and the wood hyacinth. In addition to wild bees, there are several species of butterflies in the hollow path, as well as the vine grouse. The wine grouse is a species of cricket that can be heard in the Zellergraben on warm summer evenings.
