Description

Allentsteig station is located in the municipality of Thaua, north of the historic town of Allentsteig, after which the station in the Lower Austrian district of Zwettl is named. The large reception building houses a waiting room, and a ticket machine is also provided in the waiting bunk.

45 parking spaces for cars and mopeds have been set up for rail travelers, making it much easier to change trains. There are 14 bicycle parking spaces in the on-site Bike & Ride station.

Route information

The Allentsteig stop is on the Franz-Josefs-Bahn line.

  • Regional express trains to Vienna stop here at Franz-Josefs-Bahnhof.
  • Trains to Gmünd are also served.
  • There is a bus stop on site with connections to Gmünd, Schwarzenau and Waidhofen an der Thaya.

Old Swede

The municipality of Thaua is crossed by the "Alter Schwede" hiking route on its tour from Großhaselbach via Reinsbach on the way to the Schwedenkreuz and is also a family-friendly route due to the low gradient and the pleasant duration of around two and a half hours, which nature lovers like to accompany for a while through the beautiful Waldviertel.

Town of Allentsteig

The center of Allentsteig can be reached on foot from the train station in just over half an hour. In addition to the town's own bathing lake with boat hire and lake stage, the town also offers plenty of leisure activities for visitors interested in history with the Aussiedler Museum, the Owl Museum in the Wolfganghof and the impressive walls of Allentsteig Castle.
