Description

The centrally located Amstetten railway station is situated in the middle of the town of the same name in the Mostviertel region. The bright and throughout barrier-free designed station allows an unrestricted use of the station facilities due to installed lifts and guide systems for the blind.

Two ticket counters and three ticket vending machines allow the purchase of tickets for local and long-distance traffic. The numerous information monitors as well as loudspeaker announcements and notices provide the best possible information on current railway operations. The 6 platforms can be reached comfortably by means of underpasses and lifts.

The Park & Ride facility, built in 2008, provides parking for more than 1250 vehicles and thus enables convenient access to the railway network. There are parking spaces for more than 280 bicycles in the adjoining Bike & Ride Station.

Route information

The Amstetten station is located along the Westbahn line. Furthermore, the branch line Rudolfsbahn ends at this station. Thus, Amstetten station is considered a junction in the Lower Austrian railway network.

  • Regional trains to St. Valentin are served along the Westbahn line.
  • Railjets to the airport Vienna Bahnhof as well as to Salzburg find connection here.
  • Regional express trains run to Vienna Westbahnhof.
  • Regional trains in the direction of Kleinreifling start here on the Rudolfbahn line.
  • Connections to numerous bus lines also provide transport links to Neuhofen an der Ybbs, Hainstetten and Grein.

The water tower as a landmark of Amstetten

In the years 1908 to 1909 the 18 m high water tower with two water tanks for 40,000 litres each was built at Amstetten station. As one of the last buildings of the K.u.K. architecture in Austria, the water reservoir is under monumental protection. architecture, the water reservoir is a listed building. The four-storey raw brick building not only survived more than a century of time, but also the heavy air raids of the Second World War.

History

As early as 1858, the Amstetten railway station was put into operation with the opening of the Empress Elisabeth Railway and extended to Salzburg in 1860. In 1872 the line of the Kronprinz-Rudolf-Bahn was also opened. However, as the two railway lines were operated by independent companies and the Kaiserin-Elisabeth-Bahn did not allow the shared use of the tracks, another set of tracks had to be laid.
