Description

The Himmelbauer Presshaus stands imposingly and confidently: it's not just any cellar underneath. A total of 51 steps lead down into the twilight depths, where pot-bellied barrels answer the mighty roundness of the vaults. No one knows how old this unusually large wine cellar really is. It is possible that it was built well over two hundred years ago as a robot and tithe cellar for Melk Abbey. Around 1880, strangely solemn portals were added in an artistically vaulted room. Here, 24 meters below the vineyards, tasting and drinking suddenly becomes a sensual ritual. Crystal-clear white wine, fresh and fragrant, dark, full-bodied red wine: this is what the land all around tastes like.
