Frankenfels train station

Train station

Description

Frankenfeld station in the market town of the same name in the Mostviertel region of Lower Austria lies on the valley line of the famous Mariazell railway. The nostalgic reception building offers passengers a covered seating area. At the on-demand stop, the stop request is transmitted to the next train by means of a control element. Around 30 parking spaces and 10 bicycle stands ensure comfortable boarding on the Himmelstreppe.

Route information

  • Trains stop on demand along the Mariazellerbahn in the direction of St. Pölten, as well as to Laubenbachmühle and on to Maria Zell.
  • Connecting buses to Kirchberg and Hollenstein are available at the on-site bus stop.

Nixhöhle

In 20 minutes on foot along the Mariazell railway line you can reach the Nixhöhle, a nature experience which is well worth a visit. The cave is named after the mountain milk layers in the cave, which are popularly known as "Nix". Thanks to the well-developed and illuminated underground passages, the Nix Cave is a popular destination even for inexperienced explorers and in bad weather. Guided tours of the cave are often available outside of the family-friendly opening hours.

Taubenbachklamm & Mountain Farm Museum

Starting from the Nixhöhle, the imposing Taubenbachklamm gorge leads to the next excursion destination. With the well laid out hiking trails and the interesting forest nature trail, an entertaining half hour walk follows to the Hausstein Mountain Farm Museum of the Tuder family, where numerous exhibits and lovingly designed details tell of life and farming on the mountain farm. At the in-house cider tavern, guests are fortified with regional delicacies, while children will have fond memories of the petting zoo.

Tip: If you're still not high enough, you'll find plenty of opportunities to breathe in the mountain air on around 200 climbing routes around Frankenfels.
