Frankenfels train station

Train station

Description

Frankenfeld station in the market town of the same name in Lower Austria's Mostviertel region is located on the valley line of the famous Mariazell Railway. The nostalgic reception building offers passengers covered seating. At the on-demand stop, the stop request is transmitted to the next train by means of a control element. Around 30 parking spaces and 10 bicycle stands ensure comfortable boarding of the Himmelstreppe.

Route information

  • Trains stop on demand along the Mariazellerbahn in the direction of St. Pölten, as well as to Laubenbachmühle and on to Maria Zell.
  • Connecting buses to Kirchberg and Hollenstein are available at the local bus stop.

Nix Cave

A 20-minute walk along the Mariazell railroad line takes you to the Nixhöhle cave, which is well worth a visit. The cave is named after the layers of mountain milk in the cave, which are popularly known as "Nix". Thanks to the well-developed and well-lit underground passages, the Nix Cave is also a popular destination for inexperienced explorers and in bad weather. Guided tours of the cave are often possible outside the family-friendly opening hours.

Taubenbach Gorge & Mountain Farm Museum

Starting from the Nixhöhle cave, the imposing Taubenbachklamm gorge leads to the next Excursion destinations. The well-maintained hiking trails and the interesting forest nature trail are followed by an entertaining half-hour walk to the Hausstein Mountain Farm Museum run by the Tuder family, where numerous exhibits and lovingly designed details tell the story of life and farming on a mountain farm. Guests can enjoy regional delicacies at the farm's own Tavern, while children will have fond memories of the petting zoo.

Tip: If you can't get high enough, there are plenty of opportunities around Frankenfels to breathe in the mountain air on around 200 climbing routes.
