Hausleiten train station

Train station

Description

The large Hausleiten stop connects the Nordwestbahn in Stockerau with the Franz-Josefs-Bahn, which connects in Absdorf-Hippersdorf. Through the renovation of the station in 2008, barrier-free access was achieved and the platform, which had been used for many years as a single track, was upgraded to a central platform. The facility was also equipped with noise barriers and a tactile guidance system for the blind.

Please get off!

Situated between Gaisruck and Stockerau, getting off at the station offers the possibility to go into the village of Hausleiten and visit the parish church as well as the historical Stirbwegtunnel below. For those on the path of the Way of St. James, this is an interesting waypoint to continue the pilgrimage along Wagram to Gaisruck.

Gourmets can reach numerous Buschenschanken (wine taverns) in less than 10 minutes on foot from Gaisruck station. In the cosy gardens you can forget about time while enjoying regional delicacies.

History

Originally the line was planned as an extension of the Floridsdorf-Stockerau connection via Krems to Budweis. However, such plans were thrown overboard with the construction of the Franz Josefs Bahn. A welcome relaxation of the law, which allowed the construction of local railways to be administered less strictly, allowed some planned route variations to emerge again. Until all clarifications were made, the long-awaited ground-breaking ceremony in Hausleiten finally took place in 1903.
