Hausleiten train station
Train stationDescription
The large Hausleiten station connects the Nordwestbahn in Stockerau with the Franz-Josefs-Bahn, which connects in Absdorf-Hippersdorf. The renovation of the station in 2008 resulted in barrier-free access and the platform, which had been used as a single-track platform for many years, was converted into a central platform. The facility was also equipped with noise barriers and a tactile guidance system for the blind.
Please get off!
Located between Gaisruck and Stockerau, getting off at the station offers the opportunity to go into the center of Hausleiten and visit the parish church and the historic Stirbwegtunnel below. For those who are on the Way of St. James, this is an interesting waypoint to continue the pilgrimage along Wagram to Gaisruck.
Connoisseurs can reach numerous Buschenschank (typical taverns) in less than a 10-minute walk from Gaisruck station. It's easy to lose track of time in the cozy gardens while enjoying regional delicacies.
History of the line
Originally, the line was planned as an extension of the Floridsdorf-Stockerau connection via Krems to Budweis. However, such plans were thrown overboard with the construction of the Franz Josefs Bahn at the time. A welcome relaxation of the law, which made the construction of local railroads less strictly regulated, allowed some planned route variations to re-emerge. Until all clarifications had been made, the long-awaited ground-breaking ceremony in Hausleiten finally took place in 1903.
