Langau railway station
Train stationDescription
The well-kept station building at Langau station welcomes its guests warmly; a sign at the entrance refers to the 100th anniversary of the local railroad line, which was celebrated in 2010. The seasonal journey of the Reblaus Express, the nostalgic train that revived the Northern Railway line in 2001, runs from Retz to Drosendorf and back. And it is well worth stopping off in Langau.
Dedicated to leisure
In Langau, everything revolves around leisure culture. If you take advantage of the free bike transport on the Reblaus Express and get off in Langau, you can reach the Langau leisure center on the lake in 15 minutes. The bee adventure trail is located along the shores of the Bergwerksee lake, where you can linger and relax. The 2 km long circular trail, which stretches along shady paths alongside the lake, is accessible all year round and awaits visitors with themed panels, a show bee house and a souvenir store at the end of the trail.
The Langau Museum of Local History, which can be reached on foot from the station in around 15 minutes, provides an entertaining introduction to the history and entertainment of leisure.
A very special experience is offered to those who board the Reblaus Express at the summer solstice.
History of the station
From 1949 to 1963, the station in Langau was still in operation as a coal loading point, which can still be seen today. The prospect was discovered in 1910 when a sand pit was dug for the construction of the station. After several setbacks during mining and the suspension of all mining attempts during the First and Second World Wars, mining operations began in 1948 in the so-called "Grube Austria". While the production record of 255,044 tons was achieved in 1956, coal production fell over the years. Oil and natural gas increasingly became serious alternatives and in 1963 mining operations in Langau were discontinued.
