Lichtspiele-Gföhl

Movie theater

Description

The first cinema in the Waldviertel!

The first cinema in the Waldviertel opened in Gföhl in 1923. For decades, it was a permanent institution in the town.

In 2009, operations ceased and the building stood empty until 2016, when committed citizens founded an association, campaigned and developed ideas to bring the Gföhl Lichtspiele back to life. In 2017, the time had come and the cinema awoke from its slumber.

The local population was involved in the selection of films. Gföhl does not show any current blockbusters. Instead, old films are shown using old technology and old projectors to bring back memories. Based on this, a program for cinema weekends was developed, ranging from films from the "good old days", special children's films, silent films with live accompaniment by regional musicians to talks with directors or actors and projects with schools.

The cinema is located in the center of Gföhl and is easy to reach on foot or by bike.

There areparking spaces around the cinema.
