Description

Along the Krems railway line is the single-track Furth-Göttweig station. The rustic station building promises travellers shelter from wind and weather and enjoys a magnificent backdrop with the Stiftsberg in the background.

Connections

  • Regional trains along the Krems railway line to Krems on the Danube and to Horn as well as to St. Pölten main station are served.
  • The nearest bus stop directly in the centre is a 3-minute walk away and offers connections to buses to Herzogenburg, Krems an der Donau, Meidling im Tal and Statzendorf.
  • The Benedictine Abbey Göttweig can also be reached by bus from the train station.

Benedictine Abbey Göttweig

The impressive Göttweig Abbey dominates in proud baroque style as the focal point of the region and can be reached easily from Furth Göttweig station in about 20 minutes on foot. A tour of the monastery is possible every day from mid-March to early November, guided tours must be booked in advance. In addition to the monastery restaurant, it is also worth visiting the special exhibitions and the monastery shop. A playground has been set up for the younger visitors. In 2000, Göttweig Abbey was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List.
