Schausteinbruch Zogelsdorf

Description

The Baroque period was also the heyday of the stonemasons. Up to 400 workers were employed in the Zogelsdorf quarries, and no major building site was complete without "Zogelsdorfer" for the decoration of figures. This stone was used for all fine architectural elements and architectural sculptures in almost all magnificent buildings, be it castles, monasteries or churches in Lower and Upper Austria, Vienna, South Bohemia and Moravia, even in the construction of Esterhaza Castle in Fertöd.
