Platzhirsch
As inconspicuous as the train stop in Breiteneich may appear, the impressive Breiteneich Castle is all the more impressive not far from the station. First mentioned in a document in 1223, there have been numerous changes of ownership of the elegant Renaissance castle over the years. The building is still privately owned today.
History of the castle
The scenic route of the Kamp Valley ("Kamptal" in German) Railway, whose construction was due to the successful efforts of the communities located in the Kamp Valley ("Kamptal" in German), was opened in 1889 with the first journey from Sigmundsherberg to Hadersdorf am Kamp. This meant an enormous economic upswing for the villages on the Kamp, as it not only meant that agricultural and wine products could be transported to Vienna, but it also created a so-called "wanderlust" of summer visitors and thus an important basis for tourism in this region.
