Station Ober-Grafendorf
Train stationDescription
Ober-Grafendorf station is located on the route of the Mariazell Railway. Space has been created for 16 cars in the Park & Ride facility, while the connected Bike & Ride station also offers parking spaces for 31 bicycles. There are connections to several bus lines in the immediate vicinity of the station, which offer connections to St. Pölten, Wieselburg and St. Margarethen/Sierning.
The only roundhouse of a narrow-gauge railroad in Austria is located on site. The former boiler house has been the headquarters of the local railroad association since 1987. Groups can visit the building by prior arrangement.
How to shorten the waiting time
The Ober-Grafendorf station building has been converted into a brewery building. The renovation of the station building began in the fall of 2013 and Wolfgang Stix created Austria's first station brewery. The location is a popular backdrop for various celebrations and seminars on the subject of beer brewing can also be held here. Special emphasis is placed on sourcing regional products - even more so than before.
The history
Since Ober-Grafendorf station first opened on July 4, 1989, there have been numerous conversions and extensions. Workshops, halls and numerous other facilities were gradually added to the station, which originally consisted of just a reception building and the warehouse, until the entire workshop was relocated to St. Pölten. Over the years, the tracks have also been continuously renovated. The station has only been as it is today since 1999, when freight traffic on the line was completely discontinued.
