Station Pfaffstätten

Train station

Description

Pfaffstätten station is located along the Southern Railway in the market town of the same name in the district of Baden. There is a Bike&Ride facility and several parking spaces for cars right next to the station building. The station offers a stop for the S3 and S4 express train lines. This creates a half-hourly service to Vienna on weekdays, while the route to the capital is served every hour at weekends.

Wine-growing tradition

As soon as you get off the train at the station, you are greeted by a landscape characterized by viticulture. Viticulture has been practiced in the region for centuries. The local wine taverns bring this connection to life and offer an extensive culinary experience with the theme "Wine - past and present".

History

According to legend, the last soldier of the Russian army boarded a train here in Pfaffstätten in 1955 to leave Austria. The event was reported in the Badener Volksblatt newspaper at the time and described the warm farewell of the Soviet troops with their wives and children from the Pfaffstätten freight station as part of the scheduled celebrations.

Until 1989, the year in which the Iron Curtain fell, Austria was the only country from which the Red Army had withdrawn by state treaty.

Tip: There is a nextbike rental station right next to the train station. The bikes are available in Lower Austria from April to mid-November. You can find more information on the website https://www.nextbike.at/de/niederoesterreich/, or in the nextbike app.
