History
According to legend, the last soldier of the Russian army boarded a train here in Pfaffstätten in 1955 to leave Austria. The event was reported in the Badener Volksblatt newspaper at the time and described the warm farewell of the Soviet troops with their wives and children from the Pfaffstätten freight station as part of the scheduled celebrations.
Until 1989, the year in which the Iron Curtain fell, Austria was the only country from which the Red Army had withdrawn by state treaty.
