Station Weitersfeld
Train stationDescription
The Weitersfeld train station is located in the largest municipality in the Horn district on the former Nordbahn line, which was replaced by the nostalgic Reblaus Express line in 2001.
The station building may have blended inconspicuously into the track landscape from Retz to Drosendorf and back again, but Weitersfeld station is the starting point for some very special excursion experiences.
Excursions
- As part of the wine tour, you are picked up directly from the station by a wine cab and taken from farm to farm of the Manhartsberg winegrowers for a tasting of the new vintage.
- It only takes 5 minutes to walk from the exit in Weitersfeld to plunge into the cool water and immerse yourself in that vacation feeling, as the Weitersfeld adventure pool offers cooling and refreshment for the whole family.
- The train station in Weitersfeld is also a good starting point for the pilgrimage to the nearby Fronsburger Bründl, which can be reached in around 30 minutes on foot.
The history
In 2006, heavy rainfall damaged the line between Weitersfeld and Hessendorf and operations on the Northern Railway line between Retz and Weitersfeld had to be cut short. After intensive repair work, however, the line was able to resume operation without disruption at the start of the 2007 season.
Resumption
In 2018, a concept for time-scheduled line haulage of grain was implemented in cooperation with the local warehouses in Langau and Weitersfeld and several companies. A possible extension to other goods is not ruled out.
