History
The construction of the planned line from St. Pölten to Leobersdorf, the former Leobersdorferbahn, provided a quick opportunity to promote the economy in the region through freight traffic. Companies located there were to be given access to a high-capacity rail network, and cost-covering profitability was already achieved in the first few years.
Passenger traffic on the line was never given much importance. However, due to long overdue modernization of the line, this had to be extended to the route from
St. Pölten to Hainfeld.
