Station Zöbing

Train station

Description

The charming waiting shelter with storage facilities at Zöbing station is located in the municipality of Langenlois and offers a stop along the single-track platform on the Kamptalbahn line.

The Riesling village is located on the Heiligenstein, which can already be seen from the train and, as a ridge and foothill of the Manhartsberg, is probably the most important vineyard in the Kamp Valley ("Kamptal" in German) wine-growing region. The open southern slope in combination with the Pannonian vegetation is responsible for the fact that it has been used for viticulture since the Middle Ages.

Summit conqueror

In less than an hour's walk from Zöbing train station, you can reach the Kamptalwarte on the Heiligenstein. The impressive view stretches as far as the Tulln basin and, on a clear day, even as far as the foothills of the Alps and the Vienna Woods. During a leisurely hike, you can take a relaxed stroll through the numerous vineyards and enjoy culinary delights in the atmospheric wine cellar lanes.

The history

Shortly after the opening of the Kamptal Railway in 1889, the Austrian Tourist Club built the Kamptalwarte in 1897. The lookout tower is still owned by the club today. In the years that followed, extensive renovations were carried out, and since 2002 the lookout tower has even been illuminated at night - thanks to the installation of a small solar and wind power plant.
