The history
The local line used to run from Enzersdorf near Staatz to Poysdorf. Opened in 1888, the line was around 9 kilometers long and was extended from Poysdorf to Dobermannsdorf in 1907. In 1908, the railroad, like all privately owned railroads, was nationalized. Following the renewal of the superstructure in 1927, line speeds of up to 50 km/h were possible - a top performance at the time. In 1977, the railroad was closed to passenger traffic and the track system was removed shortly afterwards.
Ameis wine cellar lane
The best way to experience the Weinviertel in its most rustic form is to visit the Ameis wine cellar lane, which can be reached on foot in just over half an hour from Enzersdorf near Staatz station. With 88 cellars, the "Loamgstettn" is one of the most beautiful wine cellar lanes in Austria. Although the active use of the cellars is declining, the Ameis Loamgstettn often still serves as a backdrop for events or quite simply as a haven of peace and retreat for a relaxing walk.
