Weingut Johann Donabaum

Winery

Description

The path leads over a small bridge in the Spitzer Graben to the historic estate, which dates back to the 16th century. The winery is one of the leading wineries in the region. Through innovation and hard work, unmistakable wines are produced here. The Grüne Veltliner Spitzer Point and the Rieslings Setzberg and Offenberg can now be found on the wine lists of many top international restaurants.

As early as 1996, Johann junior, the fifth generation of winegrowers, took the reins from his father and euphorically embarked on a new direction with the traditional Johann Donabaum winery. At the age of 20, he had set himself an ambitious goal: to soon be one of the top winegrowers in the Wachau! The vineyards were tripled, the yield halved and the focus of the former wine tavern was placed on the production of top wines.

The priceless know-how of the parents in the vineyard and that of the "next generation" in the cellar has not gone unrewarded: his top vineyards Setzberg, Offenberg and Spitzer Point have achieved top national and international ratings.

These steep terraced sites are characterized by primary rock soils, cooler air currents from the Spitzer Graben and a particularly long growing season - ideal conditions for complex, long-lasting white wines with a fresh structure.

Tasting & wine experience

Visitors can taste and purchase the wines directly on site in the in-house vinotheque. By prior arrangement, guided tastings, vineyard tours and personal discussions with the winemaker are also offered - an ideal opportunity to get to know the philosophy and signature style of the estate.

For guests who would like to stay longer, there is a small, elegant guest house with stylishly furnished rooms and gourmet suites.
