A magical place for a family vacation or time out for two: the feel-good community of Albrechtsberg in the Waldviertel is part of the Krems-Land district - and offers beautiful excursion destinations and hiking trails. There are also several circular hiking trails among the 140 kilometers of hiking routes. Albrechtsberg an der Großen Krems is also an ideal starting point for day trips to the Wachau, the upper Waldviertel and the Kamp Valley ("Kamptal" in German) reservoirs.
The valleys of the Große and Kleine Krems are particularly interesting from a prehistoric perspective - with exciting caves in which many prehistoric finds have been made and the impressive Krems Valley ("Kremstal" in German) canyon.
The castle of Albrechtsberg on the Great Krems
The listed castle of Albrechtsberg is one of the most magnificent castle complexes in the Waldviertel. It was first mentioned in a document in 1230. The largest part of the hilltop castle dates back to the 16th century. The building, which is situated on a steep hill, can only be visited from the outside.
Fascinating Krems Valley ("Kremstal" in German) caves: Gudenus Cave & Co.
The Krems Valley ("Kremstal") caves are very popular with climbers and nature fans. Valuable finds from the Neanderthal period more than 70,000 years ago have been recovered in the 30-metre-long Gudenus Cave. These are now on display at the Natural History Museum in Vienna. In the Eichmayer Cave, Magdalenian artifacts and numerous skeletons of various bird and mammal species were unearthed. In the Schusterlucke - accessible via the Vettersteig - finds of Pleistocene animals have been recovered.
Leisure tips for families in Albrechtsberg
Milla's Magic Trail is a magical themed trail for young visitors and their older companions: over a length of 2.5 kilometers through the forest, young hikers can help the little witch Milla find her lost magic stone with the help of several information boards. In summer, the Els outdoor pool is a popular meeting place for families - with children's and sports pools.
Viewing pavilion "3-Dörfer-Blick" on the Albrechtsberger Kraftweg. The viewing pavilion near the Albrechtsberg recreational pond is said to have particularly positive geomantic properties. Starting from the main square in Albrechtsberg, the facility can be easily reached in around 20 minutes via the "Albrechtsberger Kraftweg". After a short climb, you can enjoy the fantastic view and, of course, absorb the extremely positive vibrational quality of the place.
