Groß Schweinbarth
The market town of Groß-Schweinbarth lies in the gently rolling hills of the Weinviertel, in the Weidenbachtal valley, at an altitude of 182 meters above sea level. The municipality covers an area of 25 km2, a large part of which (46.3%) is forested. The Hochleithenwald, the largest oak forest in the Weinviertel, is home to a special feature: the "Weinviertel copper oak", known for its cozy shimmer due to the special soil conditions. From the wooded hills, the view from Groß-Schweinbarth extends far into the Marchfeld region as far as the Danube floodplains and Vienna, 25 km away. With its 1,291 registered inhabitants, Groß-Schweinbarth is an independent municipality in the Weinviertel.
The gently undulating landscape is ideal for leisurely hikes, relaxed walking or cycling tours and as a destination for relaxation and enjoyment. The Königsberg Hollow Trail with its remarkable and rare flora and fauna (e.g. the bee-eater) also offers a unique nature experience.
In addition to the high proportion of forest, the municipality also has a high proportion of vineyards (160 ha), making it the second largest wine-growing municipality in the district of Gänserndorf. Around 20 families grow grapes as a main or secondary occupation. The "Open Cellar Day" and the annual young wine tasting "JungWEIN und WildSCHWEIN" offer the opportunity to see the quality of the wines for yourself. Numerous awards confirm their remarkable quality. Two wine taverns and the winegrowers' round in the historic, listed Meierhof provide for the physical well-being.
