Großengersdorf

The market town of Großengersdorf is close to the hectic city of Vienna and yet pleasantly far away. The charming surroundings, not yet overrun by mass tourism, offer visitors relaxing hours in the midst of beautiful nature.

The Lourdes Chapel in the nearby Remise is well worth a visit, and in the nearby 15-hectare wetland biotope, through which the Rußbach meanders, you can enjoy pure nature.

To the north of the village, you hike through the longest and most frequently depicted wine cellar lane (1200 m) in the Weinviertel, over the Stallberg, which is built up with hundreds of wine cellars where you can taste a glass or two of wonderful Großengersdorf wine. You can reach the beautiful hilly landscape of the Weinviertel via the Stallberg. Here you can hike through the vineyards of Großengersdorf to the largest oak forest in Austria, the Hochleithenwald. You can cycle through the gentle hills of the Weinviertel and the expanses of the Marchfeld on well-developed cycle paths. All this and much more gives this landscape its special charm.

The Museum of Village Culture, which is located in the former village mill, is also well worth a visit. More than 1000 exhibits from the 19th century are on display, agricultural and wine-growing equipment and rarities from 24 crafts and trades entice visitors to touch and try them out. Fully equipped workshops such as a saddler's, blacksmith's, grocer's, tavern and much more will delight not only adults. The kitchen, laundry room and bedroom allow you to immerse yourself in the past. An old school classroom, a municipal office and exhibits from the church's past as well as various special exhibitions complete the offer.

Opening hours: Easter to All Saints' Day every Sunday from 2 - 4 pm, as well as at any time by appointment with Mr. Johann Friedrich on 0676/787 45 13 or Mr. Josef Rögner on 0676/380 17 35 or 02245/88 410.

Club life is quite lively here and many festivals always provide variety and fun in everyday life, such as: Wine tasting on Easter Monday in the village museum, music festival in May, fire department wine tasting in July, Kirtag in August, harvest festival and cellar festival in September.
