Großrußbach

Großrußbach in the district of Korneuburg lies in the valley of the Rußbach river - nestled in the gently rolling hills of the Weinviertel. The market town comprises the villages of Großrußbach, Hipples, Karnabrunn, Kleinebersdorf, Weinsteig and Wetzleinsdorf. With its numerous romantic wine cellar lanes - and beautiful weekly farmers' market - the village is a popular, quiet excursion and vacation destination not far from Vienna.

Großrußbach: historical sights

Many historical buildings can be discovered on a walk through Großrußbach. The best known is the listed Catholic parish church of St. Valentin - a former fortified church with a late Gothic tower and nave from the 15th century. The castle in Großrußbach below the parish church is a magnificent historical building. Today it houses the Weinviertel Academy of Education with several seminar rooms.

The Catholic branch church of St. Peter and St. Paul in Weinsteig is also worth a visit. The Church of the Holy Trinity in Karnabrunn is a popular pilgrimage church. Karnabrunn Castle - a moated castle with moat, corner bastions and tower - is still well preserved today. There are also several pretty chapels and wayside shrines throughout the municipality.

Excursion tips for families: forest recreation and hikes

Großrußbach can be explored on wonderful hiking trails. The Way of St. James in the Weinviertel is a special tip for pilgrims: stage 4 leads from Großrußbach to Stockerau. Just a stone's throw away from Großrußbach, a real family hit awaits in the open air: at OCHYS Waldfreizeit Kreuzstetten, after some great climbing park action, there is the opportunity for campfires and barbecues as well as overnight stays in unique forest huts with glass roofs. Breakfast is then served in the comfort of the forest clearing.
