Kematen an der Ybbs

Kematen an der Ybbs - the livable and lovable gateway to the Ybbs Valley scores with a diverse range of sports and leisure activities and typical Mostviertel hospitality with regional delicacies.

The market town of Kematen an der Ybbs is located at the entrance to the Ybbs Valley, in the midst of the typical terrain and vegetation of the Mostviertel heartland. The name Kematen (Chemnaten) was first mentioned in a document in 1305. Excavation finds bear witness to settlement activity dating back to Roman times. Of central importance in the past and present is the 33 m high bridge over the Ybbs, which is now one of the oldest stone bridges in Lower Austria and can be found in stylized form in the Kematen municipal coat of arms.

Sports enthusiasts can enjoy a wide range of infrastructural facilities all year round. In recent years, the municipality of Kematen has implemented various projects that offer sports enthusiasts, young people as well as numerous hikers and joggers of all ages a range of activities. For example, a completely new leisure facility was built on an area of more than 10,000 m², consisting of a skater court, a street field hockey court, a multi-purpose court for volleyball and basketball, a beach volleyball court and a soccer training ground, which has been extremely popular with young people since its opening. By the way: in winter, part of this facility serves as an ice skating rink for young and old.

With the construction of the approximately 10 km long "Snow Rose Trail", the municipality has set clear infrastructural accents in the context of soft tourism and has also created an attractive and family-friendly facility for all Kematen hikers and joggers. This new hiking trail owes its name "Snow Rose Trail" to the thousands of snow roses that bloom along the route in winter. The route provides visitors with charming and varied impressions of the untouched nature of the Heide nature reserve and the typical terrain and vegetation of the Mostviertel heartland.

In the reservoir area above the EVN power station "Dorfmühle", the natural bathing facility is a particular highlight. This project is fully integrated into the existing Ybbs riverbank landscape and underlines the local recreational character of the Haidhofwald forest in an attractive way. The Ybbsnaturbad, with its modern facilities and its water playground, which has won an award from the province of Lower Austria, is one of the highlights of the municipal leisure facilities. In addition, the municipality of Kematen also offers facilities for horse riding, soccer, cycling, volleyball, tennis, curling and air rifle and air pistol shooting.
