Loosdorf

The market town of Loosdorf in the district of Melk is located in the Pielach Valley - south of the extensive Dunkelsteinerwald forest. In addition to Loosdorf itself, the municipality includes Albrechtsberg an der Pielach, Neubach, Rohr and Sitzenthal. Sights such as the famous Schallaburg castle - surrounded by wonderful hiking trails and cycle routes - offer great opportunities for family excursions. Numerous accommodations are available for a long weekend or a short vacation in the countryside.

Loosdorf: land of castles
The magnificent Renaissance Schallaburg Castle is one of the most popular excursion destinations in the whole of Lower Austria: in addition to top-class exhibitions, it offers interesting regional insights and views. The famous castle near Loosdorf is also a top-class cultural center - with events for young and old. Sooß Castle is now home to the technical college for organic agriculture and home economics. Other castles include Sitzenthal Castle and Albrechtsberg Castle. Both are privately owned.

With excellent transport links, numerous accommodation providers and inns invite you to take a break and stay overnight. The Gerolding circular hiking trail is particularly suitable for families - or an easy ascent from Loosdorf train station to Schallaburg Castle: the well-signposted trail leads past the church, school and sports field and on through the idyllic countryside to the castle in around an hour.
