Rußbach
The wine village of Russbach was first mentioned in documents around 1171. An entry from 1898 in the local chronicle tells of 1000 quarters of vineyards. Since then, viticulture has played a major role in the economy and culture of the village. The large municipality of Rußbach with the three cadastral municipalities of Niederrußbach, Oberrußbach and Stranzendorf has existed since the merging of the municipalities in 1970.
Wine
Around 160 hectares of vineyards are cultivated in the municipality of Russbach. The wines from the area are known far and wide. The charming historic wine cellar lanes invite you to take long walks. From the vineyards there is a magnificent view over the Tullnerfeld as far as Schneeberg and Ötscher. A visit to a wine tavern is the perfect end to an eventful day.
Worth seeing
The Niederrußbach parish church and the branch church on the hill in Oberrußbach, which used to be an old fortification, are well worth a visit. The Hubertus Chapel in the vineyards offers a nice rest for walkers and is a great vantage point.
