• Roman country: The salt route from Halltal near Mariazell from the Early Bronze Age and the Roman road from Savaria to Vindobona ran through the area of today's municipality. In 2008, fragments of a Roman Maierhof came to light near the vicarage of St. Egyden.
• Railroad history: In the early 19th century, St. Egyden was given a station on the newly opened Southern Railway. Around four decades later, the Schneebergbahn was built in Urschendorf.
