Weitersfeld

Good energies: The market town of Weitersfeld lies above the Manhartsberg, right on the border with the Weinviertel. Weitersfeld is the largest municipality in the Horn district in terms of area. The municipal area includes the cadastral communities of Weitersfeld, Fronsburg, Heinrichs- and Nonnersdorf, Oberfladnitz and Oberhöflein, Ober- and Untermixnitz as well as Prutzendorf, Rassingdorf, Sallapulka and Starrein.

The parish and settlement are the oldest in the Waldviertel. The first documentary mention dates back to 1135. Castles and churches worth seeing still bear witness to this long history. The place name is derived from the original name "Widderfeld". The golden horned ram in the coat of arms is a reminder of this to this day.

Vacations and leisure in Weitersfeld

The family-friendly, active community is characterized by a wide range of sports and leisure activities. Sports fields and tennis courts are just as much a part of it as the Oberhöflein outdoor pool, the Weitersfeld adventure pool and the Hessendorf fishing paradise. Weitersfeld also has wonderful hiking trails and cycle routes. For longer stays - such as vacations with the whole family or a Waldviertel vacation for two - comfortable guesthouses and vacation apartments are available.

Weitersfeld: sights & healing springs

The municipality is rich in historic buildings and places of worship worth seeing. Stately castles can be found in Oberhöflein and Fronsburg as well as in Starrein and Untermixnitz. In addition to the important parish churches of Weitersfeld, Obermixnitz and Oberhöflein, the enchanting church of Maria im Gebirge is a well-known pilgrimage church. Healing springs and energies are attributed to the Fronsburger Bründel and Maria im Gebirge, among others.
