Imperially culinary: From the (Vienna) Woods we come …

Atmospheric, imperial and cosy: Hardly any other region understands better how to keep its guests cosy and warm in the cold season of the year.

… To proclaim that Christmastide is here! The pre-Christmas Wienerwald is a really charming location to enjoy an Advent weekend without stress. A wander along the Baden Advent mile; a break in a café, sweet souvenirs or a horse-drawn carriage ride like those from former times: discover wintry Baden with us!

You have arrived: Pre-Christmas relaxation

In the Imperial City of Baden, it does of course seem appropriate to have an overnight stay in a castle. The imperial Hotel Schloss Weikersdorf Residenz & Spa located right next to the wintry Doblhoff Park awaits its guests with sophisticated rooms, a 1,000 m²-large spa area and the “Rosenkavalier” – an in-house gourmet restaurant! The At the park Hotel, opposite the Congress Casino Baden, has a more urban name, but also cordially awaits its guests. Our tip: Ask to be shown around the wine house containing wines from the surrounding thermal spring region of Wienerwald! In the evening, we recommend that you reserve a table in the traditional Gasthof Martinek and advise you to try the Bierbratl (beer roast) with Erdäpfelknödln (potato dumplings) and warmed cabbage salad! Afterwards, walk slowly along the Badener Adventmeile (Advent mile) through the spa park and the historic pedestrian zone, and enjoy this very special flair! Warm your cold hands with a cup of steaming mulled wine and taste all the sweet temptations such as homemade vanilla biscuits and Christmas biscuits at the stands. Then round off the evening in comfort in the hotel’s own sauna!

Exceptional: Amazing glass

The morning starts with a relaxed and extensive breakfast, and then leads you to Weigelsdorf in the Glasmuseum “The Glass Castle” (Glasmuseum “Gläserne Burg“) in the Kuchlerhaus: Outside, you will see a colourful palace, which contains attractive exhibitions of artistic artisanship. The glass-blower’s presentations and the shop are really worth a look – there you are sure to discover one or the other unique item for your Christmas tree! Would you like to ride like they did in the times of the Emperor? Then you can book a horse-drawn carriage ride in the wine location of Gumpoldskirchen close by, and ride in style through the (hopefully!) wintry landscape, before enjoying, back in Baden, an eighth of a litre of Zierfandler wine and with it a wine tavern platter at Heurigenwirt Zierer!

Unbelievable: Delicious culture

On Sunday, you can head off on the Baden Museum Tour, or more accurately to view the works by Arnulf Rainer – which have found their place in the former open-air swimming pool – and the current exhibitions in the Kaiserhaus and the Beethovenhaus. A small lunch in the At the Park Hotel rounds off the cultural morning program. Do you still have a little time? In that case, you should revisit the pedestrian zone! Go to the Café Ullmann in the picturesque Schlossergässchen, where the Sunday afternoon coffee tradition is upheld in the old style. Enjoy a coffee with milk and the delicious chocolate macaroons! And, as a sweet souvenir from your Baden winter trip, it is essential that you take a little pouch of "Echte Badener Kaffeebonbons” (original coffee sweets)! If you haven’t eaten enough, we recommend you visit the Advent in the Wasserschloss Kottingbrunn moated castle and visit the stand belonging to Anni-K, who produces her gingerbread angels and St. Nicholas figures exclusively using ancient recipes and regional raw materials by hand – as you can taste!
