Description
A beautiful, cozy short hiking path where the most diverse landscapes can be seen.
Until the First World War, the residential cave was used by day laborers and new arrivals. Despite the simple construction, the balanced temperatures in the caves, and the animal husbandry nearby, difficulties such as daily water fetching from the village led to this form of housing being abandoned in the 20th century. The residential cave is still open to visitors today, having been restored in 2010 to a condition corresponding to its original form. Special care was taken to preserve the original paint residues. Benches and tables in front of the residential cave invite you to refresh yourself and enjoy the wonderful view.
The hike to the residential cave can be started in Nußdorf or alternatively in Reichersdorf. It goes past vineyards and orchards with a magnificent view over the Alpine foothills, the Weinviertel, and Tullnerfeld. Restaurants and Heurigers in the villages along the route invite you to stop for a meal; practical is the direct farm sale of wine (Traisental wine region), fruit juices, and some other delicacies such as apples, schnapps, and jams. Accommodation options are also available in Nußdorf or Reichersdorf.
The route is also suitable for children, as the paths mostly lead through open terrain and are not overcrowded.
