Route description From Salaberger Forest to Haag Zoo - Hiking Trail 493 West
On the West hiking trail, the fewest elevation meters are climbed among all trails in the Haag municipality, even though the ascent to Zezenberg takes place right at the beginning. After the Perlmühle, the second and thus last incline is overcome. From the Perlmühle, you have a unique view towards the town.
Then it continues towards Pinnersdorf (where a visit to the traditional decorative candle production of the Pfaffeneder family is worthwhile). Arriving in Pinnersdorf, you get a wonderful view of the Ötscher and the Prealps. You hike over meadows and through forests to Mitterndorf. There, the path splits into a short (493a ~ 14 km) and a long (493 ~ 18.5 km) route. The long route leads to the south side of the Salaberger Forest, from where you can enjoy a beautiful panoramic view of the Prealps.
At the crossroads, the path turns and leads back through the forest. Passing the game enclosure, you encounter rest stops at Mostheuriger Hansbauer or at Wirt z´Krottendorf.
After the snack station, the short and long trails reunite. Passing the "forest houses" and the Geiblinger family's alpaca farm, you reach the south side of Haag City Zoo (a visit is definitely recommended).
The path then leads you further past the now well-known cultural center Böllerbauer back into the town center.
