Easy hike through vineyards to the viewing tower at Gobelsberg, which offers a wonderful panoramic view up to the foothills of the Alps.

Description

South of Gobelsburg there is a viewing tower on the Gobelsberg (303 m), which is easily accessible from the village center and ideal for families with children (also suitable for strollers). The viewing tower offers a wonderful panoramic view from the Tullner Basin over the Danube Valley to the foothills of the Alps. In good visibility, you can even count up to 37 church spires.

Route description Hiking trail to the viewing tower on Gobelsberg

From the information board in the center of the village (Josef-Steininger-Platz) follow Schlossstraße – past the church and castle – towards the southwest. Turn at Café-Bäckerei Kirschner and follow the Wine Road for about 2.5 km. At the small Hubertus Chapel keep right and follow the path for about 300 m to the viewing tower. Return the same way.

Directions

From Vienna: Donauuferautobahn A22 towards Stockerau, continue on the S5 towards Krems until exit Fels am Wagram, follow the B34 to Langenlois and continue on the L55 to Gobelsburg.
From the west: Westautobahn A1 towards Vienna to St. Pölten, continue on the S33 and B37 to Krems and on B218 to Langenlois and continue on L55 to Gobelsburg.

Parking

In the center of Gobelsburg

Regular regional train connections between Gobelsburg and Hadersdorf (connection to Vienna), Krems as well as Langenlois and the Kamptal (fahrplan.oebb.at).

Equipment

Sturdy footwear, functional clothing, sun and rain protection, maps, optionally trekking poles, first aid kit (blister plasters), sufficient provisions (snack, muesli bars, fruit, water).
