Route description Scheibbs Höhenrundwanderweg

DAY STAGE 1
Scheibbs – Lampelsberg – Ginselhöhe – Neustift
Walking time: about 5 1/2 to 6 hours, 24 km

The starting point is the town hall square. We go down the town hall stairs, cross the main road and immediately after that cross the Erlauf on the "Sandsteg". Continue straight through Bahngasse to the train station. Here we turn right.

At the pedestrian crossing, we cross the tracks of the Erlauftalbahn and continue right on Karl-Höfinger-Promenade and Rutesheimerstraße up to the road maintenance yard. Turn left into Sowitschstraße and through the underpass of the Erlauftal federal road B 25. Immediately after that, turn left again. The route leads along the Brandstatt-Hummelsberg goods road past the houses Weberlehen and Brandstatt to the Oberhummelsberg farmstead. Here, pass the house on the left, then after about 200 m over a crossing and on a meadow access road to a hunting stand. Keeping left here through a small forest onto a meadow near the house Steindlreith. Following left, a forest road begins the ascent onto the ridge of Lampelsberg. At an information board on the ridge, turn left to the "Kreuzbuche" at the summit (819 m). Downhill past the transmitter and on the road to a wayside shrine and a barrier. We cross the asphalt road to the left, but already 50 m further we turn right again (sign "Karl-Riedl-Steig"). Continue on the road above the house Sturmlehen. At the saddle at the intersection with the access road to house Grub, following a row of shrubs half-left, begins the Karl-Riedl-Steig. Up a steep meadow slope to a crossing, cross the road, straight through the forest up to a ridge. After crossing a forest road and a short, steeper section, we follow the ridge line to the summit cross at Ginselhöhe (905 m). From the highest point in the municipal area, we follow the ridge for a short distance, then left and again right onto a meadow. Along the row of shrubs to an access road, which we follow left to house Ort. Continue straight along the goods road to house Brunn. Here turn right to the chapel at house Schlag, then half-left downhill on a field path, always along the forest edge over a meadow to house Halt. Passing the house on the right, on a forest road through the woods and in a right curve straight ahead to house Rieglöd. Pass the house on the left to the goods road, on this in hairpin bends downhill to a sharp left curve. There go straight steeply downhill and at house Graben turn right onto a driveway. Downhill along this, passing house Kalch, we reach Neustift. The first day stage ends after about 24 km at the inn "Zum Steinbruchwirt" (Buchebner) (accommodation available).

DAY STAGE 2
Neustift – Holzkogel – Blassenstein – Saffen – Scheibbs
Walking time: about 6 1/2 to 7 hours, 28 km

From the inn Buchebner, the path leads on Dreimärkterstraße to the Erlauf bridge. We cross the river and immediately turn right. Continue a short way along the right bank of the Erlauf, under the Erlauftal federal road B 25 and uphill, first left, then right to house Anzelöd. Before the house turn left, continue straight uphill following the cart track. A long right-left path combination follows, which finally leads steeply uphill to the road coming from house Mieselmaß. Here turn right to house König, around this and continue first on a meadow path, then a cart track to house Gaisberg. Pass the house on the left downhill to the beginning of an asphalt road, down this into the Saggraben. After the bridge over the creek turn left uphill in large hairpins, passing the dilapidated Kaltenbach mill, to house Gnadenberg. Then continue straight to the end of the asphalt road, follow a cart track and reach house Hochholz. Here we meet the Blassensteinstraße, follow this left to house Schwarzenberg. We turn right, pass a farmstead and follow a field path towards Holzkogel. Shortly before the ascent to the summit (883 m, 15 min) left over a fence and along this on a cattle pasture to another crossing, then right into the forest. Continue almost straight along the ridge over several crossings and finally down a meadow to the parking lot at the end of Blassensteinstraße. From here a short detour to the "Urlingerwarte" at Blassenstein is worthwhile with magnificent views of Scheibbs, over the Alpine foothills and to the peaks of the Styrian-Lower Austrian Kalkalpen. Back to the parking lot and right down through the forest. Past the "Kalmusbründl" (allegedly healing effect) always straight ahead to federal road 29 at Sollböck. We cross the road and walk straight to Eckhäuser. Through the middle there and on a meadow ridge to a small wood. Then follows a meadow with scattered trees leading to house Punzengrub. Through the farmstead, after Sandstraße we meet asphalt again. Here sharp right to farmstead Hochweinberg, around the house and half-right down a field and meadow path. The path now leads past house Oberlehenreith downhill to the houses Mitter- and Unterlehenreith. Shortly before that, the goods road turns left in a hairpin bend towards Kaumberg. From here it continues to the first bend downhill, straight to a creek bridge, after crossing half-right uphill to a meadow to house Mitterhart. Immediately near the house half-right down a field path to house Kronegg and sharp right downhill to

the Scheibbs-Nord access road at federal road 25. We continue the path left towards Saffen. At the inn Hofmacher there is an opportunity to stop. On the bridge opposite we cross the Erlauf, immediately turn left again and along the left bank of the Erlauf, past the cemetery, back into town. The eastern part has a length of about 28 km.
