Our top tips for the season and the autumn holidays

A fabulous autumn awaits!

Even in the autumn, Lower Austria’s countless excursion destinations invite the whole family for a great day out! Mum, Dad and the kids definitely won't be bored! Granny and Grandpa will also find something exciting to do!

Explore the Mostviertel!

Final call for mountain adventurers! The season for many mountain railway lines and other places of interest will end in late October/early November. So get on your bike and experience the Gemeindealpe Mitterbach resort (open until 2 November) or the Annaberg Zipline (open daily until 13 September; Friday - Sunday from 18 September to 18 October, and daily from 23 to 31 October) in the autumn! Tip: The Wilden Wunder Card gives you free entry to many attractions in the Mostviertel. The Mendlingtal Adventure World will be open daily until 31 October. The White Zoo and Camel Theatre will also be open to visitors every day until 1 November. The Eibl-Jet all-weather toboggan run in Türnitz will be open every weekend (Friday - Sunday) and on public holidays from 7 September until 1 November.

Some excursion destinations can be visited all year round. These include ErlaufschluchtHaag Zoo, and “indoor classics” such as the Haubiversum (Bread World), the MostBirnHaus (House of the Perry Pears), the Museum of Lower Austria or the Ybbstaler Solebad thermal baths.

Explore the Weinviertel!

Even in the autumn, the Leiser Berge region is a top choice for family excursions. The Leiser Berge Nature Park covers around 4,000 hectares, and offers nature, adventure and relaxation for the whole family at the heart of the Weinviertel. Fun, adventure and action await you in the region's many places of interest. The Buschberg, the highest peak in the Weinviertel, is waiting for you to explore it. Take a ride along the Weinviertel Draisine – a bicycle track on rails – from Ernstbrunn to Asparn. The Ernstbrunn Wildlife Park, which is home to the Wolf Science Centre, is highly recommended. The Alpaca Fun Farm in Oberkreuzstetten is a true paradise for animal lovers. 22 November will be your last chance to visit MAMUZ Castle Asparn/Zaya and see the special exhibition “CAUTION: CONSTRUCTION SITE. Building and Living in the Middle Ages”.

For families who love hiking, we recommend the Weinviertel Summit Route. If you would rather explore the region by bike, then the Weinradweg Blauburger Route is for you.

Explore the banks of the Danube!

This area is also very diverse in the autumn. Until 31 October, you can still explore the Aggstein castle ruins by taking part in an adventure game, following in the footsteps of the knights. The Hubhof park will be open on weekends (Saturday - Sunday) and public holidays in September and October. Its four adventure zones delight visitors of all ages.

Explore the Waldviertel!

Until 29 November, discover the region by taking a trip on the Waldviertel Railway! Tip: Every Wednesday, there is an extra children's carriage on this diesel nostalgia train. For animal lovers, the Arbesbach Bear Sanctuary is a must. The cute bears can be visited until 1 November, when they go into hibernation.

If the weather is good, we recommend hiking along the Nebelstein Adventure Route. Until 1 November, the interactive exhibits in the Sonnenwelt Großschönau museum invite explorers of all ages to find out more about the topics of climate protection and resource conservation. Some attractions are open all year round, and are therefore suitable in poor weather. These include the KRISTALLIUM Glass Experience in Hirschenwies, the Amethyst World in Maissau and the SONNENTOR organic farm in Sprögnitz.

Explore the Vienna Alps!

The St. Corona am Wechsel Fun Park, a true outdoor adventure paradise, is particularly popular with families. There are 24 stations in the Motorikpark, a mini bike park, and of course the fast and furious “Corona Coaster” summer toboggan run. The Hohe Wand Nature Park, Puchi’s World in Puchberg am Schneeberg, and the Hamari Climbing Centre in Mönichkirchen are also thrilling for children.

Explore the Vienna Woods!

The Triestingtal region is worth a visit for families. Our tip: Hike along the Peilstein Adventure Trail. There’s a new animal-themed adventure trail for the whole family – the Bat Adventure Trail, which leads to the Einöd Caves. Don't miss your chance to walk with llama.
