Otto Kandler Haus
Lodge / hutDescription
Time seems to stand still at the Otto-Kandler-Haus on Hohenstein. And that's a good thing, because that's exactly why you can really switch off here, simply enjoy nature and toast your successful ascent with a fresh glass of Dirndl juice.
Tradition meets naturalness
Quaint, informal and romantic - that's the best way to describe this traditional mountain hut dating back to 1905. Situated at an altitude of 1,195 m, it delights visitors with its wonderful view and the loving hospitality. The fresh pastries and wood-fired oven dishes taste best with a glass of Dirndl juice on the spacious terrace, where, with a bit of luck, you can spot chamois and ibex.
Many ascents, one destination
The Otto-Kandler-Haus makes mountain hikers' hearts beat faster: the ascent can be tackled from the Pielach and Traisental valleys. Depending on the starting point, well-signposted routes take 2 to 3.5 hours to reach the refuge, where a hearty snack awaits.
Real mountain life
There are 12 campsites available for overnight guests. Thanks to its ecological management with solar power, simple regional dishes from the wood-fired oven and the absence of running water, the Otto Kandler Haus is a very rustic experience and has been awarded the environmental seal of approval of the Alpine associations.
Opening hours: from April 28 to October 28 on weekends and public holidays
