Description
Full steam ahead. Or always following your nose? At the Wirtshaus zur Minidampfbahn in Zwettl, this question does not arise. Both are true. The mini real steam locomotive in the heart of the Waldviertel is the shining figurehead of the inn. Guests stay on track with the locomotive, rail bike or vintage tractor. Right up to the moment when the aroma of the inn's cuisine spreads and caresses the nose. It is and remains a pub. And the Mayrhofer family is proud of that. For more than 30 years, extraordinary skill, creativity and regional products have merged here to create culinary delights. The interior is original. The furnishings date back to 1948 and are still in their original condition.
More than just an inn
In culinary terms, the Wirtshaus is committed to the region's mini steam train. Waldviertel classics such as the Stift Zwettler carp cupped (boneless) in gray carrot breading with homemade potato salad are perennial favorites on the menu. The roast pork in natural gravy with potato dumplings and bacon and cabbage salad falls into the "home cooking" category. Always crispy, always fresh: the fried chicken salad in pumpkin breadcrumbs. This down-to-earth cuisine can be enjoyed in the rustic parlors or in the small banquet hall. Outside, guests can choose from a front garden or inner courtyard. The latter is separate and ideal for children. In the meantime, many animals have found a home around the inn, which can be admired and stroked.
