HISTORY

Experience Roman history in the ROMAN CITY OF CARNUNTUM. The former Roman legionary and provincial capital of Upper Pannonia, Carnuntum, with its two AMPHITHEATRES and the newly discovered GLADIATORS' SCHOOL, was located on an area of approx. 10 km². The MUSEUM CARNUNTINUM forms the center of this park. Numerous finds and reconstructions present a picture of the Roman settlement of this region up to the 4th century AD.
The MARIENKIRCHE, a Romanesque, three-aisled pillar basilica with an early Gothic choir and west tower, and the late Romanesque KARNER from the 13th century are also worth a visit.
