Bärnkopf

Arrive and take a deep breath: Bärnkopf is located in the center of Austria's largest closed forest area, the Weinsberg Forest. With its location at 1,000 meters above sea level, the village is the highest municipality in the Waldviertel. The small community in the Zwettl district also has - in the truest sense of the word - excellent air: the Lower Austrian provincial government awarded it the title of "climatic health resort". For those seeking peace and quiet and families with children, this idyllic spot is therefore an ideal and healthy vacation and excursion destination - surrounded by greenery.

The municipal area includes Bärnkopf, Mitter- and Unter-Bärnkopf, Zilleck, Saggraben, Lichteck, Weinsbergwiese and two private single houses as well as the forester's lodge of the Habsburg-Lothringen estate Persenbeug.

There are many opportunities to let your soul breathe here all year round: from a leisurely hike to relaxed fishing or splashing around and swimming. The water of the popular Schlesingerteich pond is at a pleasant temperature in summer - and its high iron content makes it pleasantly soft on the skin. There is also a sunbathing lawn, beach volleyball court, fitness trail and campsite with barbecue area.

In winter, the Bärnkopf cross-country skiing center offers around 65 kilometers of trails with diagonal and skating tracks. Ski rental and a cross-country skiing school round off the offer for winter sports enthusiasts.

Whether it's the interesting woodchopper museum, the lovingly arranged doll's house or the listed parish church of St. Anne: Bärnkopf has beautiful excursion destinations for the whole family to marvel at and discover.
