WELCOME TO THE "
" GUESTHOUSE
"DIE ALTE POST."
The guesthouse is located at the foot of the castle, on the edge of the beautifully designed village square in Albrechtsberg.
The name is derived from the former historic post office, which served as the model for the guesthouse when it was rebuilt in 2018 on the exact same site. This blend of modern comfort and historic charm makes it a unique destination.
The old post office building, nestled within the historic ensemble of the castle and village square, can be seen in many historical photos of the town of Albrechtsberg. The reconstruction of the building has helped preserve and enhance the town’s well-known picturesque character.
We are delighted to be able to offer our guests a very special “home away from home.”

The Vinothek— a charming spot in the rock cellar
“Wine Priest” Denk is a familiar name to many people today. Among other things, he helped put the community of Albrechtsberg on the map.
In addition to serving the parishes of Albrechtsberg and Els, he devoted himself enthusiastically to wine culture. He passed away in April 2019.
We dedicate our wine bar to this remarkable man, wine connoisseur, and former owner of the original building.
Anyone lucky enough to share a table with “Wine Priest” Hans Denk was already a winner. The wine philosopher was a wonderful conversationalist and possessed a vast knowledge of wine from which everyone could learn.
… Denk earned his reputation through his exceptionally refined sensory perception, which gave him an almost uncanny success rate in blind tastings. Especially with the home-field advantage of the Wachau region, he often identified not only the grape variety, vintage, and winemaker, but also the specific vineyard site. (Quote: Bernhard Degen, Fallstaff, April 2019)
“Wine Priest Denk” developed the special “DenkArt” wine glass series for the company Zalto.
We would be happy to organize custom wine tastings as well as events, celebrations, and corporate functions for you.
The Surroundings
Welcome to Albrechtsberg, the feel-good community on the Große Krems.
This historic town in the Waldviertel region of Lower Austria was first mentioned in a document in 1157 as “Elharteskirchen.” The town’s most striking feature is the castle, which rises steeply above the landscape. It is one of the most remarkable castle complexes in the area.
The Baroque parish church and former pilgrimage church of the Assumption of Mary was consecrated as “Maria auf der Stiege.”
The complex is privately owned, and not all areas are open to the public. The forecourt and the church are freely accessible.
Its proximity to the famous wine-growing regions of Wachau and Krems Valley ("Kremstal" in German), as well as to the art and culture city of Krems, offers enjoyment away from mass tourism.
