Snowshoeing is considered an easy-to-learn endurance activity; weatherproof clothing, good footwear and a basic level of fitness are required. Many regions offer beginner and taster tours with a guide, for example on the Rax, in St. Aegyd or in the Ötscher-Tormäuer Nature Park.

Guided tours are offered in St. Aegyd(nordicsports academy), in the Ötscher-Tormäuer Nature Park, on the Rax and in several Waldviertel towns such as Bärnkopf, Bad Traunstein and Langschlag.

Snowshoe hire is available at the Raxalm-Berggasthof, at the nordicsports academy in St. Aegyd, Lackenhof and in Waldviertel towns such as Bärnkopf, Langschlag, Gutenbrunn and Bad Traunstein.

Yes, taster days for cross-country skiing, ski touring and snowshoeing are offered every year in Lower Austria. Here, winter sports fans can gain their first experience of their chosen sport without any prior knowledge, with rental equipment and accompanied by experienced guides, and experience winter away from the classic pistes.

Several regions specifically focus on public transport: In the Rax region, train and bus connections lead to the Rax cable car, while in the Mostviertel region, St. Aegyd and the Ötscher-Tormäuer Nature Park are connected by train and bus lines. Depending on the timetable, Bärnkopf and other starting points can be reached in the Waldviertel.
