Description

The Kitzhütte is located to the west of Hollenstein an der Ybbs on the Königsberg at 1,266 m above sea level and is a popular destination for hikers and mountain bikers. Visitors are treated to an alpine snack at the hut. If required, a mattress dormitory is also available for overnight stays. Around the Kitzhütte, hikers have access to numerous other trails. You can reach the Königsberg-Siebenhütten, the Nieder-Scheibenberg, the Schwölleckau, the Triftanlage Mendlingtal and the Steinbachtal in a manageable time.

The surrounding area of approx. 410 ha is owned by Österreichische Bundesforste AG. 65 ha of this is pastureland and is managed by the Servitutsgemeinschaft Königsberg-West. Those interested have the opportunity to take a guided tour of the alpine pastures, where you can learn about life there and the work of the herdsman. The romantic alpine landscape accompanied by the ringing of cowbells provides a pleasant backdrop to any hiking tour around the Kitzhütte area.
