Description

Lilienfeld Abbey is located in the foothills of the Alps in Lower Austria. It is considered the largest medieval monastery building in Austria. It was founded in 1202 by Duke Leopold VI. The 83 m long church is the largest church in Lower Austria.

Lilienfeld Abbey has long been an important pilgrimage site. Guests stay in simple rooms in a monastic atmosphere. Places of contemplation are the church, the cloister and the abbey park. There is also a guest library. The overnight stay in the monastery, an official Via Sacra host, includes breakfast. Lunch and dinner are served in the inns in Lilienfeld.

Tip: Father Hermann Joseph Schöppe is available as a Via Sacra expert. If you would like to stay longer in the monastery and take part in monastic life, you can book "Days of Silence".
