Description
The Ybbstalerhütte (1,343 m) on the edge of the Dürrenstein wilderness area can only be reached on foot. This makes the delicious wood-fired roast taste even better. By the way: as a "This is how the mountains taste" establishment, the ingredients are almost exclusively sourced from the region. Hiking trails of varying levels of difficulty make families and mountaineers equally happy on the Dürrenstein.
Summits and stargazing
As there are so many tours around the Ybbstalerhütte, we recommend an overnight stay at the hut, which has been awarded the ÖAV environmental seal of approval and offers 47 cozy sleeping places. Then you will probably also see the fabulous starry sky, which shines particularly clearly here. For the family-friendly ascent, we recommend the paths from Steinbachtal or Stiegengraben (both approx. 2.5 hours' walk). There are also great tours around the hut. The three most popular include the Große Hühnerkogel tour, the Noten tour with a visit to the summit cross and views of Göstling and the Dürrenstein tour with fantastic views.
