We have been welcoming guests here for many years - with open arms and genuine hospitality. What started out as a small snack station has now become a cozy inn with a family-run guesthouse, a fine wellness area and plenty of space to relax.
Some things have changed over the years, but the most important things have remained the same: a warm and friendly atmosphere, a down-to-earth attitude and a love of the region.
Our hotel is located in the middle of the Styrian Eisenwurzen Nature Park - where Gesäuse, Hochkar and the Dürrenstein wilderness area form a small natural paradise. A little corner of the world that can do a lot, but doesn't have to: experience adventure outdoors, relax indoors - or simply do nothing at all. Many of our guests appreciate exactly that: a pleasant mixture of activity and idleness, of closeness to nature and small escapes from everyday life.
Between mountains, rivers and real nights
Palfau is nestled in a landscape that doesn't have to be loud to make an impression.
In summer, get out and about - up to the peaks, rafting on the Salza or on quiet paths away from the hustle and bustle.
Here you are right in the middle of it all, but never in the crowd. No hustle and bustle, no crowds - just nature as it should be: wild, gentle, sometimes surprisingly quiet.
And those who like to ski down the slopes of the Hochkar in winter can look forward to a few quiet hours in the wellness area afterwards. Or simply: take a walk, read, eat well and let the day pass you by. Because winter here with us invites you to find your own pace - without any hurry.
When the sun slowly disappears behind the mountains, a natural spectacle begins without a big stage:
Because it gets really dark in our nature night area. No glow, no light smog - just the starry sky and the good feeling that the night can be real again.

Our rooms are simple but cozy - with everything you need: Shower, WC, hairdryer, satellite TV and WLAN.
The highlight? The view. Directly from the window or balcony, the view stretches far over the hilly landscape of the Gesäuse as far as the Hochkar.

After a peaceful night's sleep, our breakfast with fine regional products awaits you:
Honey and juices from the surrounding area, sheep's cheese from the Mostviertel, homemade jams, spreads and cakes - all fresh and made with love. There are also strong herbal teas from the Gesäuse - perfect for a good start. No matter whether you're heading up the mountain afterwards or continuing with a second coffee on the terrace.
Wellness - if you like it quiet
If you want to take it easy, our small, fine wellness area awaits you:
A classic steam bath, a hot sauna and a soothing infrared cabin provide warmth and relaxation.
Plus a terrace with a fountain to cool off - or in winter: a portion of fresh powder snow ❄️
If you simply want to close your eyes for a while, you will find your place in the light-flooded relaxation room - with a heated bench, drinking fountain and a fine selection of teas.
The wellness area is open in the afternoons - for relaxation by appointment. With us, time can do what it should: do you good. A bit of exercise, a bit of a break.
