Mountain summit, Outdoor adventure

At 358 meters lies the highest elevation of Lower Austria's popular leisure mountain near Vienna, the Bisamberg. From here, on the Elisabeth-Höhe, the view reaches as far as the Little Carpathians and the Hainburg Mountains. With its opposite, the 425 meter high Leopoldsberg, the Bisamberg forms the so-called "Vienna Gate".

Thanks to the landscape of mixed oak and downy oak scrub forests as well as dry grasslands, large parts of the approximately 340-hectare area are under nature and landscape protection. The "Old Redoubts" - remains of fortification sites from the Prussian wars in the 19th century - are considered a special natural monument. The unique grass and meadow steppes created here are under Natura 2000 protection. Since 2007, grazing goats have taken over the majority of the dry grassland maintenance.

In addition, the Bisamberg is home to rare flowers and over 700 species of butterflies - as well as over half of Austria's bee colonies. At the foot of the mountain lies the Herrenholz forest island: an "oasis" of oaks and hornbeams in the middle of agricultural land.

Experiences on the Bisamberg: hike, wonder and discover

Beautiful hiking, theme and walking trails run throughout the Bisamberg area. Inns and wine taverns provide for the physical well-being of their excursion guests. With playgrounds on the Elisabeth-Höhe and Falkenberg, even little hikers are guaranteed not to get bored.

Good to know: The Bisamberg was already settled thousands of years ago - as evidenced by valuable archaeological finds that point to a Celtic settlement, among other things.
