Description

The Eisenstein is a 1,185 meter high mountain in the Türnitz Alps in Lower Austria. The Julius-Seitner-Hut is located on its summit and invites you to stop for a bite to eat. In good weather, the summit offers a view of the Ötscher, Schneeberg and Gippel mountains as well as the Großer Priel and Traunstein.

The 1,195-metre-high Hohenstein is located near the Eisenstein.
It takes around 3 hours to reach the Otto-Kandler-Haus on the Hohenstein via the Gscheid.

  • Starting from Türnitz, 466 meters in altitude, around 2½ hours walking time
  • from Knedelhof (Türnitz), 595 vertical meters, around 1½ hours walking time
  • from Stelzerbach (Türnitz), around 2¾ hours walking time
  • from Dobersnigg (Loich train station), 400 meters in altitude, around 3 hours walking time
  • from Loicheck, 878 vertical meters, around 1.5 hours walking time
  • from Schwarzenbach an der Pielach (village center), 510 meters in altitude, around 2 hours walking time

Several regional and Austrian long-distance hiking trails also lead over the summit of the Eisenstein, such as the Waldmarkweg 622, Traisental circular hiking trail 655 and the Voralpenweg 04A.

Another tour on the Eisenstein is the Türnitzer Alpen Rundwanderung Eisenstein. An ideal circular hike to the panoramic summit with the Julius-Seitner-Hut at 1,185 meters above sea level. Duration approx. 5:45 hours.

The Eisenstein in winter

The Eisenstein is a popular destination for ski tourers and snowshoe hikers. The terrain is well suited. The Knedelhof is a good starting point for winter sports enthusiasts.
The Julius-Seitner-Hut is also open in winter and is perfect for a break and a refreshment stop.

Tips in the surrounding area

  • The Paulinenhöhle cave is located around three kilometers from the summit of the Eisenstein. A family-friendly hike leads to it.
  • The open-air and local history museum in Loich offers insights into a bygone era and brings visitors closer to regional history.
