The Semmering Base Tunnel will connect Gloggnitz in Lower Austria with Mürzzuschlag in Styria from 2030. It will relieve the historic Semmering Railway and is considered one of the most important infrastructure projects in Austria. Construction began in 2012 and commissioning is planned for 2030.
