Jakobskirche Falkenstein

Church

Description

The Falkenstein parish church is nestled in the wine village of Falkenstein with its imposing castle ruins and surrounding vineyards.

The church is dedicated to St. James the Elder and is one of the oldest in the country. The tower is built according to late Romanesque and Gothic architecture, while the church in its current splendor radiates the early Baroque style of the 17th century.

Sandstone Madonna and Holy Trinity

A special feature of the church is the Gothic sandstone Madonna of the so-called Beautiful Madonna type, which was created around 1400 and restored in 1990. Also noteworthy is a rare depiction of the Holy Trinity above the high altar, which was created around 1700 and depicts the three divine persons in the same human form.

The church in Falkenstein is open daily.
