Kapelle Kromos

Church

Description

The chapel on country road 6204 opposite Kromos was built in 1954 by the then owners Heinrich and Leopoldine Ruckensteiner-Hörndlhuber. Master builder Graschopf from Seitenstetten incorporated various stylistic elements into the building, but nevertheless created a very appealing place of worship. The interior of 180 x 160 cm in concrete with smooth, reddish screed and a green arrangement on the floor looks very elegant. In the niche, which extends from 50 cm above the floor to the ceiling and has a semi-circular cross-section of 90 x 70 cm, stands the almost life-size statue of Fatima.
The entrance is blocked by a grille forged from parts of the oven grille from the farmhouse in Willersdorf. The round-arched entrance is 230 cm high. The porch, supported by conical columns and rectangular capitals, extends the upper structure of the chapel forward by 80 cm. As the superstructure of this porch is 60 cm high, the roof only starts at a height of 270 cm, resulting in a total height of 4 m. There is no gable on the rear wall of the chapel because the niche with the statue has been rounded off and the roof ends with a hip. The space in front of the portal is covered with stone slabs, which originate from a "stone ream" used in the past for pressing must.
Farmer Heinrich Ruckensteiner, the only surviving son of the local mayor, had this chapel built in gratitude for his happy return home after surviving the war and many years in captivity.

Tip: The Biberbach chapel trails lead to the most beautiful chapels and shrines in the municipality. The Kromos chapel can be visited along the Kromos chapel trail of the same name.
